Crazy Credit Card Scams & Identity Theft Horror Stories

On Behalf of | Jan 22, 2011 | Consumer Protection

You think you heard crazy and wacky. Wait to you hear these stories!

A women in Rhode Island received $65 worth of flowers paid for on her own stolen credit card.

This is even wackier. Jennifer Mercado was sitting on a Bronx, N.Y. jury in a credit card theft case when she stole a fellow juror’s credit card. The other juror was able to figure it out because Jennifer Mercado went shopping on her lunch breaks. The shopping bags she returned with corresponded with the stores on the stolen juror’s statement. She was arrested mid-trial.

One woman in south Florida paid a person to steal another individual’s person identification. She used that personal information to open several credit cards. Then she proceeded to the plastic surgeon to have a few procedures including breast implants and liposuction.

This next wins for most crazy. A millionaire dentist finds a credit card outside a mall. He uses it to purchase $40 worth of pizza. In the meantime, the college student called the credit card company to cancel his credit card when the company said it was just used to purchase pizza where he lost it. The student immediately called police. The dentist was arrested while he was still waiting for his pizzas. In the meantime, he had $250 worth of cash in his wallet and had a net worth between $3 and $4 million.
